PRESS RELEASE FROM WISSOTA March 24, 2008

Central Wisconsin Raceway promoter responds to drivers' desire, steers track back into WISSOTA

UNITY, WI - Central Wisconsin Raceway owner and promoter Larry Smith announced on Monday, March 24 that his high banked, 3/8 mile dirt track will be WISSOTA-affiliated starting with the first race in 2008.

“We’ve done an extensive poll of our drivers and they’ve made it very clear that they want this track to be a part of WISSOTA,” Smith said. “Our decision is based on their feedback to a large degree, because we view our racers as essential customers of this business.

“Doing what’s right for our racers is what’s right for the track,” Smith said.

With his freshman season at the helm of a race track now past, Smith is ready to embark on a second year of growth at the rejuvenated operation, which is located in the heart of Wisconsin five miles east of Unity.

Divisions which will compete at the track on a weekly basis are WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Street Stocks as well as the track’s own Pure Stocks, Hornets and Super Hornets.

“We are working hard to bring new racers into the sport in our entry-level classes, and we think that will benefit our WISSOTA class car counts in the future,” Smith noted.

All of the WISSOTA division competitors will run for track, regional and national points as part of the association’s AMSOIL Dirt Track Series.

“This was a WISSOTA member track when it was opened in 1997,” Smith offered, “and I think many racers will appreciate the stability and consistency that our WISSOTA membership will again offer.

“We’ve got a very loyal group of local racers,” Smith added, “and as we look to the future we hope that we’ll not only grow that group but also attract drivers from throughout Wisconsin every Friday.”

Smith also stressed that he plans to be a very involved member of the WISSOTA Promoters Association and looks forward to representing this track and all its drivers at the organization’s annual meeting each November.

“I’ve had the chance to speak to a number of other WISSOTA promoters from throughout a wide area, and they’ve all stressed how important that meeting is to them and their racers each year,” Smith said.

Central Wisconsin Raceway will race each Friday night in 2008 beginning with its season opener on May 9. For more information about the track, contact Smith by phone at (612) 867-2858.
