PRESS RELEASE FROM WISSOTA 2008

Hoosier issues bulletin regarding freeze-cracking after several damaged tires found in WISSOTA region

ROGERS, MN (April 17) - A small number of Hoosier H40 tires shipped to WISSOTA area distributors early in 2008 have shown evidence of freeze-cracking. Freeze-cracking can occur to virtually any tire made of a hard compound if handled incorrectly during shipment or initial use when the temperature is 32 degrees or less.

Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. has issued the following advisory to address these conditions.

This advisory addresses proper storage and use of Hoosier tires in cold conditions. Hoosier tires, especially asphalt and hard compound tires, may experience rubber cracking if the tires are transported, crushed, flexed or stressed when frozen.

The following guidelines are provided to avoid this problem:

• Do not use tires that have evidence of freeze-crack damage.

• Always store Hoosier Racing Tires indoors at temperatures above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

• If tires have been subject to 32 degrees Fahrenheit or less, allow them to warm to room temperature (about 70 degrees) for a minimum of 24 hours before the tire is mounted, transported or flexed.

• Always use spare tires not intended for future competition to store vehicles for prolonged periods of time or winter transport.

• If below freezing temperatures are expected, please consider shipping tires once more favorable conditions exist.

If you suspect your new tires have cracked as a result of handling while frozen, please contact your local Hoosier Tire Distributor where the tire was purchased, or phone Pat Willis of Hoosier Tire North at (763) 428-8780.
