WISSOTA
The WISSOTA 100 is about family & fun in SD
HURON, SD - Pack up the family for the 2017 WISSOTA 100 in Huron. Along with four nights of packed-to-the-brim dirt track racing action, there is no shortage of special events in Huron during “100 week” to keep drivers and fans entertained before the cars hit the track each evening.
Your Chance To
Mess With Sasquatch
That’s right folks, the Jack Link’s iconic mascot “Sasquatch” will be in attendance at the 2017 WISSOTA 100 at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron. Sasquatch is notorious for being a champ at Hide & Seek and now, with this rare opportunity, you will get the chance to snap of a pic of this elusive man-beast! Get your selfie or souvenir to show that you had an encounter with the legend himself! Keep an eye out for more details on where Sasquatch might be at the Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100.
WISSOTA 100 Photo
Scavenger Hunt
Do you like a little competition? Of course you do, you’re race fans! New this year is the WISSOTA 100 Photo Scavenger Hunt. The challenge is to complete as many tasks throughout your stay by taking photos and submitting them to the Dakota Promotions Facebook page. Each task will be awarded points and the person with the most points by the end of the event will win a prize sure to please any race fan! Tasks on this list will include taking photos at local establishments and attractions as well as daily tasks at the track. Come ready to take a selfie or two and don’t forget your phone charger! Task list and instructions will posted online soon.
Bean Bag Tournament
If you think you've got what it takes to be the WISSOTA 100 Bean Bag Tournament Champ, then enter in the games to be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday! Registration starts at 11 and play begins at Noon each day. Call Cory for details 605-461-1675. The tournament is limited to the first 40 teams.
WISSOTA 100 Auto Expo
If you love Street Rods, Rats, Old Race Cars and Classic Cars from years gone by, don’t miss the WISSOTA 100 Auto Expo on the SD State Fairgrounds. Last year’s show featured more than 100 cars on display! The Auto Expo is open to the public and is completely free! Iverson Group is sponsoring the event and the show will run Thursday-Friday 11-5 and Saturday 9-4. It will be held again in the Nordby Exhibit Hall just off of 3rd Street.
Ride In A Race Car
Bob Hiller’s nationally famous two-seat, street-legal GRT race car will be on the grounds Friday and Saturday in an effort to support the local DARE organization, which educates young people in the community about the dangers of drug use and abuse. Hiller travels the country with his charity-supporting race car and gives rides to event fans for a donation. If you want to take a quick tour of Huron and really do it in style - the kind of style that will leave people staring, pointing and waving at you - then make a donation to the local DARE organization and have Hiller take you around town. You might never have this opportunity again, so don’t miss it. All proceeds stay in Huron for the Huron Police Department DARE Program.
Late Model Simulator
Roster’s Ultimate Racing (RU Racing) will be in front of the grandstands with their Late Model Racing Simulator daily beginning at 11am. Climb into the cockpit where a mini-theater with high definition graphics, surround sound, and wind and smoke machines add realism to the driver controlled racing environment from R U Racing. Tickets for a ride are adult $10/10 laps and $5/10 laps for youth and winners will receive $100 prize! Go test your skills in a racecar and the person with the fastest lap time wins!
Nightly 50/50 Drawings
“Gamblers” will also have the chance to win big money every night at the track. Saturday night’s winner has received well more than $12,000 in the past. You read that right. Over $12,000 for one lucky race fan, just for buying a few tickets from the friendly Lions Club members from Huron. On Wednesday through Friday, the “typical” winner’s amount is over $3,000. Small change, right? Are you kidding? Get there and get your tickets!
Tool Time By Fastenal
The local Fastenal store will again be a prominent vendor on the midway behind the grandstands throughout each race day. There will be very, very special buys on tools of all kinds at the Fastenal booth this year – name brands, top quality, and best prices. Fastenal is a sponsor of the event, so support them and get a great deal, too! The Fastenal booth will be open 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Golf, Bowling, Movies
There are three golf courses in Huron, two bowling alleys and a movie theater within about five minutes of the race track. When the kids need a break, or when you want to enjoy one of your favorite non-racing pastimes, consider a round of golf, a line of bowling, or lose yourself in a great movie.
Parks &?Walking Trails
If you just want to get away and enjoy a nice day, the city of Huron has scenic, spacious parks and walking trails that are great for the whole family where you can view over 20 murals. There’s also a gym and exercise facility which allows non-members to get a great workout while in town. The Nordby Center for Recreation includes a track, pool, weight room, tennis, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts.
World’s Largest Pheasant
Something you won’t see in any other city is the World’s Largest Pheasant. The kids will get a kick out of seeing a bird that stands 28 feet tall and 40 feet from beak to tail! Snap their photo standing next to one really big bird.
Nearby Attractions
If you want to take a short road trip one of the days you’re in beautiful South Dakota, nearby Mitchell (45 minutes away) has The Corn Palace, a major tourist attraction for families from across the U.S., and if you’re an outdoor enthusiast, stop at the huge Cabela’s store in Mitchell as well. South Dakota is a hunter’s paradise and the Cabela’s Store is a great place to window shop...or shop for real!
For The Grownups
There are also casinos nearby for day trips, and the Terry Redlin Wildlife and Americana art museum is only about 90 minutes away in Watertown. It’s an easy drive to make under sunny Dakota skies.
