Eagle Valley Speedway

Eagle Valley Speedway Opener

Jim Falls, Wisconsin (May 06, 2018) River County Co-op sponsored the Eagle Valley Speedway 2018 Season Opener and beautiful springtime weather greeted the crowd and drivers alike. The WISSOTA Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds and EVS Hornets were all in action. Feature winners included Dave Cain, Tommy Richards, Michael Truscott, Michael Knudtson, George Richards, and Jason Bauer.
The WISSOTA Modified heat was won by Michael Truscott as he shared the front row of the feature with polesitter Steve Hallquist. It was Dave Cain moving from the inside of row two into the lead and never looking back all the way to the checkered flag. Kevin Adams and Mike Anderson waged a several lap battle for position, which Adams eventually took. As the race wore on, Adams caught Steve Hallquist and overtook the runner up position. At the finish, it was Cain comfortably over Adams as Hallquist held off Anderson for third and Truscott rounded out the top five.
Tommy Richards and Curt Meyers were WISSOTA Super Stock heat winners as Meyers drew the pole and was flanked by Jeff Brauer for the feature. Meyers parlayed a good start into the lead but the field slowed under caution before the first lap was in. The second attempt of the start saw Richards running with Meyers as the two were side by side at the finish of lap one. Richards took the point on lap two and set sail away from the field. The top runners saw Meyers in second, followed by Brauer, and then Mark Stender as the field spread apart.
As Terran Spacek was beginning to flex his muscles as he moved past Stender into fourth position the caution flag flew for a slowed Wayne Dean in turn four. On the restart, Myers made a hard drive into turn one and used a slide job to move up in front of the leader. Undaunted, Richards crossed over and regained the point. Meanwhile, Spacek continued his movement forward as he took the third position and Troy Fransway broke into the top five.
The caution flag flew two more times, first due to a spin in turn four and then a failed restart. Under the final caution of the event, Spacek relinquished his third place position and retired with apparent mechanical issues. The restart saw Richards too tough to handle as he cruised to the win. It was Meyers in second as a late charging Dan Nissalke looked good moving to third ahead of Fransway as Marcus Simonson closed and finished in fifth position.
Danny Richards and Cody Kummer topped the WISSOTA Street Stocks heats as Travis Hazelton and Parker Anderson graced the front row at feature time. Lap one saw the front row starters side by side at the line as Anderson moved to the lead in lap two. Hazelton was not done though as he dogged the leader and took the point by the finish of lap three. Danny Richards used the low groove to make it a three car shootout up front. As Richards moved into first, a caution flag flew resetting the field and putting Anderson back on top.
Anderson set the pace, but Hazelton was strong on the restart and again, took the lead. Again, Richards challenged and as he took the lead over Hazelton but the caution flag flew for mechanical issues on Jess Seim’s car. Hazelton was restored as the leader. Again on the start, Hazelton was solid as he moved to a few car length lead over Richards as Michael Knudtson began to make his presence known as he raced into third.
As the leaders raced down the backstretch, Richards appeared to break down. His slowing car started a melee which collected Braden Brauer and Dalton Hazelton. Unfortunately, all three cars were eliminated from the event. Under green, Hazelton led Knudtson as he moved into the runner up position, but third running Anderson struggled off turn two and drew in Ron Hanestad as the caution flag flew again.
They restarted and Knudtson made a bid for the lead, taking the same only to see Kummer have major mechanical issues slowing the pace once again. Hazelton regained the point for the final restart of the race. It was Hanestad and Knudtson who drove to the front as the two battled side by side with Hanestad inching into the lead. Knudtson held his own and didn’t allow Hanestad to clear him. He dug deep and drove into first and was not going to relinquish it as he drove to the checkered for an impressive win. Hanestad followed Knudtson home in the runner up spot as Travis Hazelton finished in third. Bob Seidler finished a strong in fourth over fifth finishing Anderson.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds saw Shane Halopka, Steve Haas, and Kevin Adams winning heats as Nick Koehler and Chris Johnson set the pace for the feature. Koehler was the leader after the first circuit but Adams moved into the lead on the second lap in his bid to win his third Midwest Modified feature on the weekend.
Adams moved away from second running Koehler as he had his hands full with Halopka and Tommy Richards. A spinning car in turn two slowed the pace and on the restart, Richards got moved too low into the tire barrier coming to the green flag and lost several positions. However, the hard charging 18th starting Michael Truscott moved into the top three. A spinning Derek Haas drew the final caution flag in the event.
As Adams brought the group back to green, Truscott moved into second and Halopka drove under Koehler for third. Truscott was not near finished yet though as he closed hard on the leader and drove under Adams for first. Adams continued to chase to the checkered flag, but Truscott was impressively strong and was not going to be caught. It was Truscott first to the line, Adams, Halopka, Koehler, and a recovering Richards in fifth.
The WISSOTA Pure Stocks were swept by George Richards as he won the heat and started from the outside of polesitter, Tyler Wahlstrom in the feature. The two were side by side after lap one, but Richards took the spot and never looked back. Tucker Quinn had a fine run to finish in the runner up position as Wahlstrom finished third over Tyler Hallquist.
The EVS Hornet heat was won by Chad Prissel as he was the polesitter for the feature, starting inside of Jason Bauer. The pace was slowed twice for debris on the track as Brauer led the event from the start. On lap 9, Chad Prissel was able to wrestle away the lead, but he was called for the later of the two cautions and was relegated to the rear for the restart. The final three laps saw a great amount of action as firstly, Dean Butler took the lead on the drop of the green, a lap later, Dan Prissel and Bauer had raced back to the front and were side by side at the white flag. The final circuit saw Bauer retake the point for the win as Dan Prissel followed him home. Chad Prissel scratched back into third as he was followed by Butler and Danny Halterman in fifth.
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to racing action on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, 2018, with WISSOTA sanctioned auto racing featuring all five classes plus the EVS Hornets. Oium Well Drilling and Oium Black Top will once again give away one bicycle each for both a boy and a girl just as they do every race night at the Eagle Valley Speedway!
