The silver anniversary season of the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series has finalized its 2023 schedule with the addition of a twentieth event, which will serve as the series finale and will be held on Wednesday, September 13th during the opening night of the Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100.

The Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100, WISSOTA’s showcase event, held the third weekend of September each year which pays $10,000 to win, will now hold even more meaning with the final event of the Late Model Challenge Series on the calendar to kick off the mega-event on Wednesday night.

The 2023 series kicks off with a Minnesota doubleheader on Friday, May 19th at the I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN and Saturday, May 20th at the Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, MN.

18 additional events dot the Challenge Series calendar, including the second annual XR Northern Storm week and has stops at the KRA Speedway, the Fiesta City Speedway, the Madison Speedway, the Casino Speedway, the Granite City Motor Park, the Hibbing Raceway, the Halvor Lines Speedway, the ABC Raceway, the Gondik Law Speedway, the Red Cedar Speedway, the Rice Lake Speedway and the Grand Rapids Speedway throughout the season.

Several series events will see an elevated payout, including a $5,555 to win event at the annual Mahder 55, held in memory of former Challenge Series Champion Duane Mahder at the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wi on Friday, August 11th and a pair of $5,000 to win events, during the season opener at the I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN on Friday, May 19th and at the Granite City Motor Park in Sauk Rapids, MN on Sunday, June 25th.

The annual Twin Ports Twin 25’s, held Friday, July 21st will feature a pair of $2,000 to win Late Model features with a $1,000 sweep bonus if a driver is fortunate enough to win both 25-lap main events, offering up a possible $5,000 to win payday for one competitor.

Four additional events will pay $3,000 to the winner; those being the event at the Fiesta City Speedway on Montevideo, MN on Friday, June 9th; the event at the Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD on Sunday, June 11th and both nights of Hibbing Raceway’s annual Labor Day Shootout on Saturday and Sunday, September 2nd and 3rd.

The newly scheduled series finale, at I-94 on September 13th will see a $2,500 winner’s purse to cap off the series’ 25th anniversary season.

The remaining eleven series events will carry the traditional $2,000 to win top prize.

New Richmond, Wisconsin’s Pat Doar is the all-time winningest driver in Challenge Series history with 36 career victories heading into the 2023 racing season. John Kaanta (32 wins), Jake Redetzke (15), AJ Diemel (15) and Jimmy Mars (13) round out the top five in all-time series triumphs.

Huron, South Dakota’s Cole Searing is the defending series champion, winning his first career title in 2022 by 63 points over East St. Paul, Manitoba, Canada’s Shane Edginton in the final series tally.
