PLATOW POWERS TO 2023 WISSOTA STREET STOCK ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TITLE

Dominick (Dom) Platow, of Paynesville, Minnesota raced to the 2023 WISSOTA Street Stock Rookie of the Year title at the conclusion of this most recent season. Platow, 30, began his racing career in the Pure Stock division in 2020 and competed in that class for the first three seasons of his young career before moving into the Street Stock division in 2023. His primary tracks that he called ‘home’ weekly were the KRA Speedway in Willmar, MN on Thursday nights, the Fiesta City Speedway in Montevideo, MN on Friday nights and the Madison Speedway in Madison, MN on Saturday nights with trips to the Granite City Motor Park in Sauk Rapids, MN on Sunday nights as often as possible as well, giving him plenty of options to compete several nights a week at his local tracks all summer long.

When asked about what it means to win the Rookie of the Year title, Dom said ‘all the sleepless nights, empty beer cans and broken parts made it tough, but it takes toughness to succeed and that’s what we did!’ He also wanted to express how much it means to have the support of his incredible sponsors, amazing fans, and great friends that have helped make this year such a success for him and his team. In total, Dominick competed in 55 events during the 2023 season and finished inside the top ten during 37 of those 55 events he ran in, including 8 top five finishes for his efforts.

Although Platow has not yet won a feature in the Street Stock division, he remembers racing from 16th to finish 3rd at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN one night as a memorable moment and mentioned ‘just going out trying new tracks, meeting some amazing people and realizing I have a few fans out there was pretty awesome’ as what the sport is all about and what kept him going all summer long.

Platow’s #69 is sponsored by Eagles Nest Bar & Grill, J&S Small Engine, AMS Oil – Dakota Krumrey, Brooten Auto, Rohe Farms Transport, Farmer Dave, Fire House Coffee Shop, Iams Garage, Grizzley’s Woodfired Bar & Grill, Snap Fitness, B&K Schrupps Meats & Seafood, Central MN Mobile RV, Yarmon Ford, Yarmon Towing, and Schlangdaddy Party Bus & Limo. He is supported on and off the track by his great crew, which consists of Rob, Swede, Dakota and Colton.

At the conclusion of the 2023 season, Platow amassed 2752 points to win the ROY title by 126 markers over runner-up Levi Randt when the final points were tallied.

As of today, Dominick plans on racing in the Street Stock division again in 2024 with plans to travel a bit more than he did in 2023 and compete at some tracks he hasn’t been able to visit in the past.

Congrats!

The WISSOTA Promoters Association exists to benefit its member tracks to enhance safe, profitable and successful dirt track racing, through unified, cost-effective rules, policies and procedures, enacted within a democratic environment.

The WISSOTA Promoters Association was founded in 1981 by eight track promoters in Wisconsin and Minnesota, with intent to offer uniform rules for the promoters and drivers involved in the Late Model division. Soon, the group decided to do the same for the growing Modified division.

In 1984 a voluntary steering committee was formed to oversee the business aspects that developed and to guide the future of WISSOTA’s racing divisions. That steering committee evolved into a board of directors, and the non-profit racing organization became incorporated in 1986.

Promoters who join the organization become, in essence, part owners of the racing organization and are expected to contribute to its overall success. Each November, the WISSOTA annual meeting is held; the member promoters gather annually in this forum to discuss the future of the organization. Member promoters are given the opportunity to vote on all organizational policies and procedures as well as rules for competition in the various racing divisions. WISSOTA’s member promoters and racing associations have spent approximately 30 years of hard work at the annual meetings crafting unique rules for each of the divisions, which are known as WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Street Stocks, WISSOTA Mod Fours, WISSOTA Pure Stocks and WISSOTA Hornets.

WISSOTA is proudly sponsored by Hoosier Racing Tire, Speedway Motors, AFCO Racing Products, MyRacePass, Structural Buildings, Chevrolet Performance, Engine Quest, World Products, Manley, QA1, Allstar Performance, Bassett, Brodix Cylinder Heads, AMI Graphics, MSD, Minuteman Press Princeton, Simpson, Hooker Headers, Marv’s Trailer Sales, Leighton Broadcasting, Joe Provo Racewear, Mahle, Moser Engineering, Performance Auto, ATD, Holley, American Solutions for Business, Speedwerx, Bradshaw & Bryant, All Star Trophy and Awards, SERVPro, Shaw Trucking, AT21, CMD Race Shocks, US Foods, Race Gear Designs, QualityFreightRate.com, Dirt Track Supply, Velocita, Motul Oil, Dirt Race Central, WISSOTA.tv, and Garage-Tech X-treme.
