MINDOCK MASTERS PURE STOCKS FOR FIRST WISSOTA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Prentice, Wisconsin’s Brent Mindock became the first Wisconsin driver to ever win the WISSOTA Pure Stock National Championship and the title came down to the final laps of the final feature race of the season. Mindock entered the MTH Fall Classic at the Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, MN for the final national point weekend trailing Dustin Puffe by four points. The mission was clear; he must finish 1 st or 2 nd in the feature race to overtake Puffe for the title.

Well, as all good stories go, the weekend started off with a near disaster, as he blew his motor in practice on Thursday night, nearly derailing his title chase. He was able to borrow a motor from a friend but had to travel 3 hours one way to get it and then 3 hours back to Ogilvie with the new-to-him power plant. After a 5 th to 3 rd run in his Friday night heat race, he rolled off 6 th in the feature on Saturday night. Puffe started on the front row of the same feature race and was
trying to win the race, and the national title for himself. As the race unfolded, Puffe was involved in a caution and Mindock was able to race forward and ended up second in the feature, taking back over the point lead and racing to his first ever national title in dramatic late-season fashion.

55-year-old Mindock started racing sleds in 1985 and raced sleds. Bombers, Super Stocks and Street Stocks until 2000 before taking a 20 year break from racing, before returning to the sport in 2020 in the Pure Stock division. Throughout the 2020-2023 seasons, Mindock raced to 4 victories, but the 2024 season was different. He won his first three starts of the 2024 season and went on to race to 17 victories in just over 40 starts. Of those 41 events he entered, he not only won 17 of them, but only finished outside of the top ten on 2 occasions, picking up 39 top tens and 34 top fives along the way.

Among Mindock’s 17 victories, he picked up wins at his home track, the Rice Lake Speedway, plus also won at five other tracks across the region, including the Eagle Valley Speedway, Eagle River Speedway, Proctor Speedway, ABC Raceway and Bemidji Speedway.

Of the 27 victories Brent raced to this season, he mentioned several that were special or memorable, including winning the MPH Invitational at Bemidji, the 8 th annual Runkle Memorial Race and Gary Blaeser Memorial Race, both at Eagle Valley and of course racing to the Eagle Valley and Eagle River track championships as well. When asked to sum up his season. Brent mentioned that one other moment he recalls fondly was ‘winning a personal best 4 feature
races in one week.’

Brent’s wife once told him ‘Remember, it is the nut behind the wheel that wins the race. Calm down, focus, you’ve got the skills. You’ve got this!’ Brent certainly listened to his wife and lived that motto all season long en route to his first career national title.

Brent is sponsored by BC Auto Repair LLC., Northside Machine, Raw Chassis, Chuck’s Little Station, Multitek North America, Rug’s Northern Dumpster, Haubert Snowplowing LLC., Kathy Mindock doTerra Wellness Advocate and Bacoll’s Custom Mowing & Bailing, and he is also supported by his wife Kathy.

The Pure Stock division first was sanctioned by WISSOTA in 2015 and as mentioned, Mindock becomes the first Wisconsin driver to win the National Championship in the division.

Congrats to Brent and his team!

The WISSOTA Promoters Association exists to benefit its member tracks to enhance safe, profitable and successful dirt track racing, through unified, cost-effective rules, policies and procedures enacted within a democratic environment.
The WISSOTA Promoters Association was founded in 1981 by eight track promoters in Wisconsin and Minnesota, with an intent to offer uniform rules for the promoters and drivers involved in the Late Model division. Soon, the group decided to do the same for the growing Modified division.
In 1984 a voluntary steering committee was formed to oversee the business aspects that developed and to guide the future of WISSOTA’s racing divisions. That steering committee evolved into a board of directors, and the non-profit racing organization became incorporated in 1986.

Promoters who join the organization become, in essence, part owners of the racing organization and are expected to contribute to its overall success. Each November, the WISSOTA annual meeting is held; the member promoters gather annually in this forum to discuss the future of the organization. Member promoters are given the opportunity to vote on all organizational policies and procedures as well as rules for competition in the various racing divisions. WISSOTA’s member promoters and racing associations have spent approximately 30 years of hard work at the annual meetings crafting unique rules for each of the divisions, which are known as WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Street Stocks, WISSOTA Mod Fours, WISSOTA Pure Stocks and WISSOTA Hornets.
